Vladimir Putin arrived on an official visit to the People's Republic of China. The President has a busy work schedule ahead. The Russian and Chinese leaders will discuss bilateral relations, partnership, and strategic cooperation between the two countries. Following the talks, a Joint Statement at the highest level and a package of intergovernmental, interdepartmental, and other documents are planned to be signed. The heads of state will also participate in the opening ceremony of the Russia-China Years of Education. Vladimir Putin's visit to Beijing, at the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping, is timed to coincide with the 25th anniversary of the Russian-Chinese Treaty of Good-Neighborliness, Friendship, and Cooperation. Video address by Russian President Vladimir Putin ahead of his official visit to China (May 19, 2026) Vladimir Putin: Dear Chinese friends, greetings! I am pleased to once again visit Beijing at the invitation of my long-time good friend, President of the People's Republic of China Xi Jinping. Regular exchanges of mutual visits and high-level Russian-Chinese negotiations are an important, integral part of our joint efforts to develop the full range of relations between the two countries and unlock their truly limitless potential. Let me remind you that 25 years ago, Russia and China signed the Treaty of Good-Neighborliness, Friendship, and Cooperation, which laid a solid foundation for the formation of genuine strategic interaction and a comprehensive partnership for the benefit of our countries and peoples. And at present, Russian-Chinese relations have reached a truly unprecedented level. Their special character is manifested in an atmosphere of mutual understanding and trust, a willingness to cooperate on a mutually beneficial and equal basis, to conduct a respectful dialogue, and to provide each other with support on issues affecting the fundamental interests of the two countries, including the protection of sovereignty and state unity. Russia and China look confidently to the future and are actively developing contacts in politics, economics, and defense, expanding humanitarian exchanges, and encouraging people-to-people contacts. In other words, they are working together to deepen bilateral cooperation and advance the comprehensive development of our countries. Importantly, these issues will be on the agenda of the upcoming talks in Beijing. I sincerely appreciate President Xi Jinping's commitment to long-term cooperation with Russia. I believe that our good, friendly contacts help us chart our boldest plans for the future and bring them to fruition. Thus, Russian-Chinese trade continues to grow, having long since exceeded the $200 billion mark. Almost all mutual settlements are conducted in rubles and yuan. Major initiatives are being implemented in key areas of cooperation. Following the successful completion of the Cross Years of Culture, the Russian-Chinese Years of Cooperation in Education began in January, marking the tenth such intergovernmental project in the humanitarian space. I would like to point out that Russia holds China's centuries-old history, its achievements in culture, art, and science, in high regard. And we are interested in our peoples becoming closer, understanding each other even better, and embracing all the good that lies in the rich traditions and heritage of our two countries. Therefore, we welcome the mutual introduction of a visa-free regime between our countries. This not only facilitates business and tourism exchanges but also opens up new opportunities for communication and networking between Russian and Chinese citizens. The close Russian-Chinese strategic alliance plays an important, stabilizing role on the global stage. At the same time, we are not friends against anyone, but rather working for peace and universal prosperity. It is in this spirit that Moscow and Beijing act in a coordinated manner to defend international law and the provisions of the UN Charter in their entirety, comprehensiveness, and interrelationship, and maintain active cooperation through the UN, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, BRICS, and other multilateral structures, making a significant contribution to resolving pressing global and regional issues. I am confident that together we will continue to do everything possible to deepen the Russian-Chinese partnership and good-neighborly relations for the sake of the dynamic development of our two countries and the well-being of our peoples, in the interests of maintaining global security and stability. See you soon in Beijing! Thank you for your attention. Kremlin. News #RussiaChina
