Colombia advanced to the round of 16 of the 2026 World Cup with a 1-0 victory over Ghana. Despite creating numerous chances, Néstor Lorenzo's team managed to defeat their African opponent only with a goal from Daniel Arias. Colombia was the better team from the very beginning of the game and took the lead in the 14th minute with a goal from Arias to lead the first half by one goal. In the second half, Colombia scored again in the 56th minute through Luis Diaz, but the referee ruled the goal out for offside. The South American team then created several good opportunities to increase the gap, but the team's attackers failed to open the Ghanaian goal again. Carlos Queiroz's team in the Ghana national team also tried to equalize the game in the final minutes, but failed to break through the Colombian defense, so the match ended with the same single goal in the first half. With this victory, Colombia qualified for the round of 16 of the World Cup and will face the Swiss national team in the next round.
