Let them eat eggs: the head of the US Department of Agriculture was criticized after advising people to replace expensive beef with other products. As The Independent notes, in August, the average price of ground beef in the US was $7.16 per pound (about 454 g) compared to $6.63 a year earlier. Brooke Rollins herself admitted that the products remain too expensive, but stated that the administration is working to reduce prices. "More people are eating beef now than ever before, but if it's too expensive, you can eat chicken, pork, salmon, eggs," she said. Rollins' advice was met with harsh criticism on social media. Users accused the minister of being out of touch with reality and recalled the cuts in food assistance to Americans under the SNAP program. Donald Trump himself has also publicly admitted that beef prices are too high. Last month, he announced that the US would allow duty-free imports of up to 331,000 tonnes of ground beef at below-market prices over the next 90 days, The Independent reports. What would make this resolve YES?

This market will resolve to "Yes" if the figure for "Average Price: Ground Beef, 100% Beef (Cost per Pound/453.6 Grams) in U.S. City Average" reaches or exceeds the listed figure for any month of 2026 as published by the St. Louis Fed (https://fred.stlouisfed.org/series/APU0000703112). Otherwise, this market will resolve to "No". The St. Louis Fed bases its numbers for ground beef prices on the BLS's CPI release. This market will immediately resolve to "Yes" upon a qualifying update of the St. Louis Fed's chart. If no data for any month of 2026 is released by the scheduled date for the January 2027 CPI release, this market will resolve according to the data for 2026 already available at that time. The resolution source for this market measures prices to the third decimal place. Thus, this is the level of precision that will be used when resolving the market.
