U.S. Undercuts Venezuela’s Opposition Leader as She Tries to Return

The Commissioner emphasized that this data is not based on perception, but rather the result of rigorous analysis. “We need to manage the figures to guarantee security; without statistics, we cannot operate scientifically.” For her part, Lusmialit Perdomo emphasized that security is now everyone's responsibility, highlighting the deployment of over 4,000 community patrol units equipped with patrol cars, motorcycles, and communication equipment to ensure early warning. "There are effective reports being filed because some criminal activities that may be developing are being identified," explained the director of the DPD. Thus, regarding the approach to people in vulnerable situations, Perdomo indicated that it is important to separate poverty from crime: "We cannot allow ourselves to be told that a person experiencing homelessness is a criminal. That is not necessarily the case; it is up to us to offer them a hug, a second or third chance." However, Rico González commented that the professionalization of the police forces has been another fundamental pillar. He added that the legal reform aims to ensure officers achieve greater maturity and academic preparation. "We need these men and women to be better prepared, even to the point of requiring them to learn another language." Finally, the Director of the CICPC announced that the Interim Presidency, led by Delcy Rodríguez, is about to approve funding for the acquisition of new technology and scientific equipment that will overcome the limitations imposed by the past blockade. "Crime will never disappear. We can control it, as we are doing now, and that's why all the effort invested in security has allowed us to say that Venezuela is a safe country," he concluded.
