An Iranian official confirmed to Reuters that there is no deadline for exchanging messages with the US through intermediaries to study the responses. The Iranian Foreign Ministry says that past experiences close the door to any optimism regarding the seriousness of the United States in the diplomatic process. The Iranian Foreign Ministry stressed the necessity of ending the war on all fronts as a fundamental condition before reaching any agreement.

Araqchi: We have no plans to meet with the American delegation My deputy is currently in Doha to continue consultations with Qatari friends; we currently have no plans to meet with the American delegation. No plan for dialogue with the United States has been set up yet, and all the rumors that exist are media speculation. We are not in a situation right now that requires a meeting; our conditions are clear; Qatari and Pakistani friends are also in consultation on this matter. If America accepts these conditions, the Strait of Hormuz will open and then the talks will begin, either with intermediaries, indirectly or without intermediaries. Mizan on social networks @mizanplus‏ [in reply to: Araqchi: Consultations with Qatari and Pakistani intermediaries are underway Al Jazeera interview with the Foreign Minister: Our Qatari friends were in Tehran, and this is a continuation of consultations with Qatari and Pakistani intermediaries that are underway. The plan that is now on the table is essentially the same plan that Iran initially presented and is known as Iran's 7-day plan. In this plan, Iran's conditions for the opening of the Strait of Hormuz are raised and it is said that if Iran's conditions are met, the Strait of Hormuz will open on the sixth day. It will be and on the seventh day of the Iran-US talks, they will resume. One of the ideas presented by Qatari friends was to shorten the 7-day period to a 5-day period or even less. The conditions that the US must fulfill are not strange; they were all mentioned in the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding. Of course, new conditions have arisen, for example, in paragraph 9 of the Memorandum of Understanding; the US will not impose new sanctions and will not increase its military forces in the region. FWD from SNN International: Araqi: We have no plans to meet directly with the American delegation Seyyed Abbas Araqchi, our country's Foreign Minister, in an interview with Al Jazeera: My deputy is currently in Doha to continue consultations with Qatari friends, but we have no plans to meet with the American delegation. All rumors about the time and place of the Iran-US meeting are media speculation. If the US accepts Iran's conditions, the Strait of Hormuz will open and then talks will begin, directly or through intermediaries. In New York, we had an indirect round of negotiations with Messrs. Whittaker and Kushner, mediated by Qatar, and there I presented Iran's conditions for opening the Strait of Hormuz and the seven-day plan. Our policy is clear; First, a decision should be made about the Strait of Hormuz and the implementation of Iran's conditions, and then we can discuss issues of mutual interest, including lifting sanctions and the nuclear issue. The biggest problem between Iran and the United States is distrust. If the United States wants an agreement, it must build trust. Qatar-brokered talks between the US and Iran have failed to make significant progress, Axios reports, citing sources. Qatar offered to lift the blockade on Iran in exchange for Tehran's nuclear efforts, but failed to reach an agreement, the outlet adds. "The talks are at an impasse. Iran is making demands the US can't accept, and the US believes it is winning, so there is no need to compromise." The publication's sources do not rule out a resumption of hostilities. However, Qatari mediators intend to continue diplomatic efforts.

Axios reported on Tuesday, citing three sources familiar with the matter, that Qatari mediators’ efforts to create a diplomatic opening between the United States and the Islamic Republic have made little progress, and that neither side is willing to back down. According to Axios, the impasse has raised the possibility of renewed military conflict. U.S. officials believe that U.S. President Donald Trump may order the resumption of military operations after the midterm elections. The two sources said that Qatari mediator Ali al-Thawadi met with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi in New York on Monday and presented a two-page proposal. The plan was aimed at addressing Tehran’s demand for an end to the U.S. naval blockade and Washington’s demand for nuclear concessions. Al-Thawadi then met with Trump’s envoy, Jared Kushner, and U.S. officials in Washington. US Vice President JD Vance was also present for part of the meeting. One source said: “The negotiations have stalled. The Iranians want things that the US cannot accept and the US thinks it is winning, so it sees no need to compromise.”

The state-run IRNA news agency, citing a source close to the Islamic Republic delegation in New York, wrote on Sunday, October 25, that the delegation has no plans for a new round of negotiations with the United States, and that Tehran's positions were conveyed to the American side last Tuesday through a Qatari mediator. The source added that the Islamic Republic is now awaiting a response from the United States, and that Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi will return from New York on Tuesday after completing the planned plans. The Fars news agency, affiliated with the Revolutionary Guard Corps, also denied reports about the start of a new round of indirect negotiations between the Islamic Republic and the United States, citing a source close to the negotiating team.

A senior Iranian official told Reuters: The Strait of Hormuz will remain closed and no nuclear talks with the United States will take place until Iran's conditions are met.
Diplomatic consultations aimed at reducing tensions between Iran and the United States and reaching a new agreement to end the conflict in the region are continuing on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly meetings, though no progress has yet been made. According to informed diplomatic sources who spoke to Al-Akhbar, the meeting held last Tuesday in New York between Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi, US Presidential Envoy Steve Wittkopf, and US President Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner focused on reviewing the "new conditions" for both sides to reach an agreement, without achieving any common ground. The sources indicated that a return to the Memorandum of Understanding signed on June 18 between Tehran and Washington is no longer a demand of either side; each is now calling for amendments to some of its clauses, further complicating the negotiations.

What would make this resolve YES?

On June 22, the first round of U.S.-Iran diplomatic talks in Switzerland concluded, with mediators reporting progress toward a roadmap for a final deal and follow-on technical talks expected to continue (see: https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2026/6/22/us-iran-agree-on-roadmap-towards-final-deal-in-switzerland-talks). This market will resolve according to the country in which the next direct or indirect senior-level diplomatic meeting between the United States and Iran begins by December 31, 2026, 11:59 PM ET. A diplomatic meeting occurs when representatives of both listed countries who are acting in an official capacity and are authorized to engage in diplomacy on behalf of their respective governments or governing authorities deliberately meet for the purpose of diplomacy or negotiation. A qualifying meeting need not result in any agreement, joint statement, or further engagement. A diplomatic meeting is senior-level if each listed entity is represented by a head of state, a head of government, or a vice president; a foreign minister; a minister of cabinet rank; the secretary or head of a national security council; the presiding officer of a national legislature; a special envoy; or another individual designated by the head of state or head of government to conduct diplomatic negotiations on their behalf. Individuals authorized only for technical, implementation, monitoring, staff-level, preparatory, or working-group-level talks will not be considered designated to conduct diplomatic negotiations on behalf of the head of state or head of government. This definition includes, but is not limited to, all of the following individuals: for the United States, Donald Trump, JD Vance, Marco Rubio, Scott Bessent, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner; and for Iran, Mojtaba Khamenei, Masoud Pezeshkian, Abbas Araghchi and Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf. In each case, a qualifying representative must participate in the meeting. A direct meeting refers to a diplomatic meeting where the representatives of both countries directly interact with each other in person. Meetings conducted through translators qualify, provided direct, face-to-face communication occurs. An indirect meeting refers to a meeting conducted indirectly through designated mediators or facilitators. A qualifying indirect meeting must meet both of the following criteria (i) the designated intermediaries act with the knowledge and authorization of both entities; (ii) representatives of both entities are physically present in the same facility, venue, or city as part of a single organized round of talks convened for the purpose of diplomatic engagement, with the intermediary conveying communications between the representatives or delegations on the same day. “The same day” means the same calendar day local time at the meeting location. Sessions, proceedings, or convenings of standing international organizations, treaty bodies, or recurring multilateral summits or conferences (e.g., the United Nations General Assembly, G7, and G20 summits) do not qualify, unless a qualifying and deliberate diplomatic meeting between representatives of the listed countries is separately held alongside such a convening. The following do not qualify as either a direct or indirect diplomatic meeting: chance encounters; standalone exchanges limited to greetings, courtesies, or photo opportunities; meetings conducted remotely, by telephone, or by any other means where the relevant representatives are not physically present at the same facility, venue, or city on the same day; discussions involving persons not authorized to engage in diplomacy or negotiation on behalf of their respective governments. If a qualifying senior-level diplomatic meeting occurs in more than one country, resolution will be based on the country where the first qualifying senior-level diplomatic session begins. If the next qualifying senior-level diplomatic meeting begins in any country in the Middle East or North Africa other than the listed options, this market will resolve to “Other - Middle East/North Africa.” If the next qualifying senior-level diplomatic meeting begins in any country in Europe other than the listed options, this market will resolve to “Other - Europe.” For purposes of this market, countries’ regions will be determined based on the U.S. State Department’s regional classifications in the “Countries and Areas List” (https://www.state.gov/countries-and-areas-list). Any country classified as part of “Europe and Eurasia” will be considered to be in Europe. Any country classified as part of “Near East (Middle East and North Africa)” will be considered to be in the Middle East/North Africa. If the next qualifying senior-level diplomatic meeting begins in any unlisted country that is not classified in either specified region, this market will resolve to “Other.” If no qualifying senior-level diplomatic meeting begins by December 31, 2026, 11:59 PM ET, this market will resolve to “No Meeting by December 31.” The resolution sources for this market will be official information from the governments of the United States and Iran, and a consensus of credible reporting.
