Inflation stayed elevated in August as Americans continued paying higher prices at the pump. • • The annual inflation rate held steady at 3.4%, matching July’s reading and analyst expectations, according to the Labor Department. • • The report could add pressure on the Federal Reserve ahead of next week’s meeting. Three officials dissented in July in favor of raising rates, while others have said they could join them if inflation doesn’t improve.
