The White House said President Trump and First Lady Melania hosted Chinese President Xi Jinping and Peng Liyuan this week for a reciprocal state visit designed to advance a fair and reciprocal U.S.–China relationship. • • On counternarcotics, the administration welcomed China’s scheduling of orphines and new export controls on two fentanyl-precursor chemicals, noted the August 2026 arrest of 21 Chinese nationals for precursor trafficking, and urged maximum penalties including the death penalty where applicable. • • Trump also urged Xi to increase refined petroleum output to stabilize global supply, and the United States welcomed China’s lease of two giant pandas to the Atlanta Zoo. • The two leaders operationalized the U.S.–China Board of Trade and Board of Investment chartered at the May 2026 Beijing summit to manage tariff, market-access and investment issues. • • Under the Board of Trade, both sides agreed to recommend more favorable tariff treatment for $30 billion of non-sensitive goods in each direction, covering U.S. agricultural, seafood, wood, cosmetics and medical-device exports and Chinese appliances, toys, holiday goods and child car seats, plus an agricultural market-access working group. • • China committed to import at least 10 million metric tons of U.S. coal in 2027 and 2028, while both governments said they are working to return rare-earth and other critical-mineral shipments to appropriate levels. • • The Board of Investment will serve as a structured channel for investment opportunities and impediments, addressing commercially meaningful investment issues between the two countries. • • On security, the leaders discussed Russia, North Korea and Iran, reaffirmed that Iran must never acquire a nuclear weapon, opposed any tolls on international waterways, and pledged constructive strategic stability based on respect, fairness and reciprocity. • • They agreed to support each other’s G20 and APEC summits with mutual attendance, recalled their World War II alliance, and called for trilateral U.S.–Russia–China arms-control negotiations. • • On technology, both sides adopted “super intelligence” instead of “artificial intelligence,” established a U.S.–China Super Intelligence Dialogue with the next exchange by November 2026, and created a bilateral channel for SI incidents. • •

President Xi Jinping Holds Talks with U.S. President Donald J. Trump • • On the morning of September 24 local time, President Xi Jinping held talks with the U.S. President Donald J. Trump at the White House. • • President Xi pointed out that the Chinese and U.S. presidents exchanging visits in less than half a year is unprecedented in the history of China-U.S. relations. He and President Trump had maintained communication through different means, and worked together to steer the giant ship of China-U.S. relations. President Xi said that this May, he and President Trump agreed to build a constructive China-U.S. relationship of strategic stability. This new vision reflects the realities of China-U.S. ties, embodies the expectations for the future, and is an important step toward a right approach for the two countries to get along with each other. The two sides should turn this vision into action, strive to take their relationship where cooperation is the mainstay, competition is kept within proper limits, differences are managed and peace can be expected, and chart the right path for the two major countries to get along. China and the United States should, and have all the conditions to, achieve mutual benefit and win-win results in practical cooperation, contribute to each other’s success through healthy competition, properly manage differences as they seek greater common ground, and build peace through greater mutual trust, so that the people of our two countries and of countries around the world can all benefit from a constructive China-U.S. relationship of strategic stability. • • President Xi stressed that the economic and trade teams of the two sides had a new round of consultations, and reached a new joint arrangement, which is good news for both the industries and people of our two countries and even the world economy. Cooperation is a two-way street. To keep the economic and trade ties stable, the list of cooperation needs to be lengthened, and the list of issues shortened. So long as both sides act in the spirit of equality, mutual respect, and mutual benefit, a pathway to resolving differences can always be found. It is hoped that the two sides will move in the same direction, adhere to mutual benefit and win-win results and promote the continued, steady development and improvement of China-U.S. economic and trade ties. • • President Xi pointed out that both China and the United States have strong AI capabilities. They may have competition, but they may cooperate even more. The right thing to do is to draw on each other’s strengths, not guard against each other. The two sides can continue their dialogue on AI, exchange views on its risks and benefits, and jointly prevent the misuse and abuse of AI. AI must be kept under human control. A people-centered approach should be upheld, and AI should be developed for the positive and for good, so that AI will serve the progress of humanity. • • President Xi stressed that the Chinese side’s position on safeguarding national reunification and territorial integrity is clear-cut. It is hoped that the U.S. side will adhere to the correct position of opposing “Taiwan independence,” and handle the Taiwan question with caution, so as to lay a solid foundation for China-U.S. strategic cooperation and the development of bilateral relations. • • President Trump stated that President Xi’s state visit to the United States is a great visit. Both the United States and China are great nations. President Xi and he are good friends, and they maintain deep and close communication. Under their leadership, the U.S.-China relationship will undoubtedly be a success. A new round of consultations between the economic and trade teams of the two countries has produced new outcomes. The two sides should continue the dialogue and reach an even better deal. AI concerns the future of humanity. The United States and China should maintain dialogue and strengthen cooperation on AI. • • The two presidents also exchanged views on major international and regional issues including the situation in the Middle East, the Ukraine crisis and the Korean Peninsula. • • The two presidents agreed to support each other in hosting the 2026 APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting and the G20 Summit. • •

President Xi Jinping Holds Talks with US President Donald Trump On the morning of September 24, 2026, local time, President Xi Jinping and US President Donald Trump held talks at the White House. Xi Jinping pointed out that the mutual visits between the two heads of state in less than six months are unprecedented in the history of China-US relations. President Trump and I have maintained communication through various means, jointly steering the ship of China-US relations. In May of this year, President Trump and I unanimously decided to build a constructive strategic and stable relationship between China and the US. This new positioning reflects the reality of China-US relations and embodies expectations for the future, and is an important step towards the correct path for the two countries to get along. We must translate this vision into action, strive towards cooperation as the main focus, competition with moderation, differences that are controllable, and peace that is achievable, and forge a correct path for the two major powers to get along. China and the US should and can fully achieve mutual benefit and win-win results through pragmatic cooperation, achieve mutual success through benign competition, properly handle differences by seeking common ground while reserving differences, and build peace by accumulating mutual trust, so that the constructive strategic and stable relationship between China and the US can better benefit the people of both countries and the people of the world. Xi Jinping emphasized that the new round of consultations between the two sides' economic and trade teams, reaching a new joint arrangement, is good news for the industries, people, and even the global economy of both countries. Cooperation is a two-way street; the stability of China-US economic and trade relations requires both extending the list of cooperation and reducing the list of issues. As long as we uphold the spirit of equality, respect, and mutual benefit, we can find a way to solve problems. He hoped that both sides would meet each other halfway, adhere to the principle of mutual benefit and win-win cooperation, and promote the continued stable and positive development of China-US economic and trade relations. Xi Jinping pointed out that both China and the US are major powers in artificial intelligence. While there is competition, there is also cooperation. Both sides should leverage their respective strengths rather than be defensive towards each other. Both sides can continue to conduct dialogues on artificial intelligence, exchange views on its risks and benefits, and jointly prevent the misuse and abuse of artificial intelligence. We must maintain human control over artificial intelligence technology, uphold the people-centered and benevolent principles, and ensure that artificial intelligence serves human progress. Xi Jinping stressed that China's position on safeguarding national unity and territorial integrity is very clear. He hoped that the US would adhere to its correct position against "Taiwan independence," handle the Taiwan issue prudently, and lay a solid foundation for China-US strategic cooperation and the development of bilateral relations. Trump stated that President Xi Jinping's state visit to the United States was a great visit. Both the US and China are major powers, and President Xi and I are good friends, maintaining in-depth and close communication. Under our leadership, US-China relations will certainly improve. The two countries' economic and trade teams achieved new results in a new round of consultations, and both sides should continue dialogue to reach better agreements. Artificial intelligence concerns the future of humanity, and the US and China should maintain dialogue and strengthen cooperation on this issue. The two heads of state also exchanged views on major international and regional issues such as the situation in the Middle East, the Ukraine crisis, and the Korean Peninsula. The two heads of state confirmed their mutual support for the successful hosting of the 2026 APEC Leaders' Informal Meeting and the G20 Leaders' Summit.

How did this market resolve?

Xi Jinping is scheduled to begin a state visit to the United States around September 24, 2026, where he will be received by Donald Trump at the White House. This market will resolve to “Yes” if Donald Trump publicly endorses the People's Republic of China's claim of sovereignty over Taiwan by the end of this summit. Otherwise, this market will resolve to "No". To qualify, Trump must make an explicit public statement affirming that Taiwan is part of China, that China has sovereignty over Taiwan, or that the United States supports China's claim to Taiwan. Restating the long-standing United States "One China policy", acknowledging that China holds such a position, noting that the United States does not support Taiwanese independence, or declining to say whether the United States would defend Taiwan will not qualify, as none of these constitutes an endorsement of China's claim. Any written, verbal, or recorded public statement by Trump qualifies. A statement issued jointly by the United States and China will qualify if Trump personally endorses it. The summit will be considered to have ended at the end of the calendar day (ET) on which Xi Jinping physically departs from United States territory. No meetings, events, or statements which occur after this time will be considered. If Xi Jinping does not physically enter the terrestrial or maritime territory of the United States by October 7, 2026, 11:59 PM ET, this market will resolve to “No”. The resolution source will be a consensus of credible reporting.
