Washington Post's account of the disappointing US labor market in September 2026 According to the Washington Post, the US economy created only 29,000 new jobs in September 2026, significantly below experts' estimates (about 90,000 jobs). This figure indicates a slowdown in the labor market. The unemployment rate also rose to 4.2% from 4.1% in August. The August data was also revised downward, falling to 133,000 jobs (from an initial figure of 162,000). Pressures from inflation and immigration enforcement have affected parts of the labor market. The weak report could affect the Federal Reserve's future decisions on interest rates. @YjcNewsChannel

Live: The slight rise in the unemployment rate to 4.2 percent adds credence to the argument floated by several top officials this week that the Fed can afford to proceed gradually with rate increases after its adjustment in September. Expectations for another quarter-point rate rise at the Fed’s next meeting in October, just days before the midterms, have plummeted in the past few days.

This market will resolve according to the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate (total unemployed, as a percent of the civilian labor force, official unemployment rate denoted as U-3) reported by the Bureau of Labor Statistics in the Employment Situation Report for September 2026. The resolution source for this market is the Monthly Employment Situation Report, published by the BLS every month at https://www.bls.gov/bls/news-release/empsit.htm, specifically the U-3 measure in Table A-15 for the month in question. Any revisions to the data after the first release will not count toward this market's resolution. If no data for the specified month is released by the date the next month's data is scheduled to be released, this market will resolve based on data from the last available month. Note: the resolution source for this market reports unemployment to one decimal point. Thus, this is the level of precision that will be used when resolving the market.
