Billionaire Sergey Brin has so far poured more than $100 million into his campaign to block a wealth tax in California. The Google co-founder donated an additional $20 million to the organization "Building a Better California," according to a financial disclosure, bringing his total contributions to the organization to $102 million. The organization focuses primarily on opposing the billionaire tax, along with supporting pro-business policies and measures aimed at improving housing affordability and other issues. The latest contribution reinforces Brin's role as the biggest backer of a costly campaign to block a proposed one-time 5% tax on the wealth of California's billionaires, which is scheduled to go to a vote in November. #Arabic_Business

Gov. Gavin Newsom is breaking with his own party. • • The Dem governor is standing against California Democrats after the state party backed a controversial ballot measure to tax billionaires. • • "I'm voting no because this measure dedicates almost all of the revenue it raises to a single category of state spending." • • Newsom says he instead supports "a national billionaires' tax" with a minimum tax rate for the wealthiest Americans, but not California's proposal. • • The measure will go before California voters in 2026.

Can Silicon Valley’s billionaires stop a California wealth tax?
YESRussian Media99%match30¢-7%
California is proposing a one-time tax of up to 5% on the wealth of residents and trusts with assets exceeding $1 billion. This tax is based not on annual income, but on total wealth. The vote will take place on November 3. If approved, the tax will be levied on billionaires who were California residents as of January 1, 2026. The proceeds are planned to be used for healthcare, education, and other purposes. At least six billionaires left California before the possible introduction of the tax. RBC reports on where they went, how much they took with them, and why their residency may still be challenged. More infographics are available on our channel in "Max."

What is this event about?

A one-time wealth tax on billionaires has been proposed to potentially appear on California's ballot for the November 3, 2026 general election. You can read more about that here: https://6abc.com/post/california-union-proposes-taxing-billionaires-offset-medicaid-cuts-low-income-people/18066430/ This market will resolve to "Yes" if any proposition containing a one-time tax targeting individuals, households, or family units with wealth, assets, or net worth of at least $1 billion (USD or equivalent) passes in the named election. Otherwise, this market will resolve to "No". If no qualifying ballot initiative is certified to appear on the official statewide California ballot as a proposition to be voted on in the stated election by June 25, 2026, 11:59 PM ET (the official cutoff date for new initiatives to be approved), or if all qualifying propositions/initiatives are removed from the ballot or amended before the election such that the main threshold drops below $1 billion, this market will resolve "No". The primary resolution source for this market will be official information from the Government of the State of California, however a consensus of credible reporting may also be used.
