Messi leads, Mbappe waits... Who will claim the World Cup Golden Boot? The duo are tied with 8 goals each, but Messi has 4 assists compared to Mbappe's 3. Messi and Mbappe have surpassed Germany's Miroslav Klose's historic record of 16 goals in World Cup finals. Messi has increased his tally to 21 goals in 33 World Cup matches, and Mbappe to 20 goals in 21 matches. The third-place match gives Mbappe a chance to respond, while Messi aims to seal the victory in the final. The award rules prioritize the player with the most assists in case of a tie, then the player who played fewer minutes. Harry Kane, Jude Bellingham, Ousmane Dembélé, and Mikel Oyarzabal are still in contention. Competition
