New UK Foreign Secretary to Continue Support for Ukraine New Prime Minister Andy Burnham has announced his first cabinet appointments. Ed Miliband has taken over as Foreign Secretary, replacing Yvette Cooper. Miliband served as Energy Security Secretary in Keir Starmer's government and has been an active participant in international meetings on the resilience of Ukraine's energy system in the face of Russian attacks. Since 2014, he has taken a tough stance on Russia, calling for maximum diplomatic and economic pressure on Putin. John Healy, a former defence minister and one of the most determined and active supporters of Ukraine in British politics, has become Chancellor of the Exchequer. This is essentially the second most important position in the government after the prime minister. According to experts, the appointment of Healy will mean that increasing the UK's defense spending will become one of Burnham's priorities.
