A statement from the US military announces strikes against Iran in response to an attack on a commercial vessel. US Central Command (CENTCOM) forces conducted strikes against Iran on June 26 in a strong response to yesterday's attack on a commercial vessel transiting the Strait of Hormuz. US aircraft targeted Iranian missile and drone storage sites, as well as coastal radar sites, after Iran struck the M/V Ever Lovely on June 25 with a single-pilot attack drone. The Singapore-flagged cargo ship was departing the Strait of Hormuz along the Omani coast at the time of the Iranian attack. This unprovoked aggression against commercial shipping by Iranian forces constituted a clear violation of the ceasefire. Moreover, Iran's dangerous behavior undermined freedom of navigation at a time when trade is increasing through this vital waterway for international commerce. US Central Command forces continue to provide coordination and support to ensure the safe passage of commercial vessels transiting the Strait. The U.S. military remains present and vigilant to ensure that all aspects of the agreement with Iran are adhered to, respected, and remain fully in force and in effect.
